The California VMB has a history of taking prior action to take your rights away to choose your own qualified rehab practitioner for your pet. Fortunately, their efforts to monopolize this area of pet care failed. A legislative bill will be necessary to open up safe access to these highly trained professionals and allow the consumer to choose who they want to render their pets' rehabilitation services (but only after their veterinarian has provided a referral and given medical clearance to ensure your pets' safety). An effective bill would mandate that licensed physical therapists have additional training on animals in order to ensure competency. Furthermore, an effective bill would also empower your veterinarian to refer your pet to a qualified physical therapist if he/she determines animal rehabilitation would be safe and beneficial for your pet. It's a win-win (except for the veterinary lobbying groups who wish to monopolize the field of animal healthcare...)
California does not need a veterinary monopoly. It's not good for the pets or the people of California.
